Marchantia Polymorpha

Marchantia polymorpha | Common Liverwort — Named for its lobed, liver-like thallus, once believed (under the “Doctrine of Signatures”) to treat liver ailments.
How to grow:
Prefers shallow trays or pots with constantly moist soil. Grows best in bright shade; avoid direct midday sun. Keep under high humidity for lush, flat thalli.

Growing requirements:

• Water: Constant moisture; prefers rain or distilled water

• Soil / substrate: Moist, fine-grained, neutral to slightly acidic; rich in organics

• Humidity: High (>80%)

• Sunlight: Shade to low light (1,000–3,000 lux); 6–8W grow light

• Temperature: 10–20 °C

Growth habit:
Flat, green, ribbon-like thalli with gemma cups for asexual reproduction

Growing season & conditions:
Cool, wet seasons (monsoon, late winter)

Acclimatization on transport:
Moderately hardy but prone to drying; ship in sealed containers with damp substrate

Marchantia polymorpha was one of the first plants to colonise land after the last Ice Age
